The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) of the UK has published a document which proposed to expand the use of statin therapy in the UK.

According to this document atorvastatin in dose of 20 mg is recommended for all patients with total risk > 10% (QRISK2 calculator), and not 20% as before, with the aim of primary prevention, in cases where preliminary modification of lifestyle (diet + physical activity), does not give an effect.

Patients with a diagnosis of atherosclerosis of any localization should get atorvastatin in dose of 80 mg.
