What an individual eats in the process of gaining weight appears to have an impact on their plasma lipoprotein profile, according to the results of a new study[1]. Individuals who gained weight eating polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) had a reduction in atherogenic lipoproteins, whereas those who consumed a diet with more saturated fatty acids (SFA) had a worsening of these same lipids.

Still, regardless of different changes in atherogenic lipoproteins resulting from increased PUFA and SFA consumption, gaining excess weight led to an increase in markers of insulin resistance and endothelial dysfunction.
